President’s Message
Dear neighbors and friends,
’m pleased to report that the City and County are now actively working with us to
upgrade the landscaping, lighting and walkways around our Haskins Avenue
Ientrance area. We’re also working with them to repair damages to our
guardhouses sustained from last year’s storms.
Speaking of storms, with hurricane season approaching, we all SHOULD be aware of
the need to be prepared, but a reminder can’t hurt. With that, you’ll find the important
information you will need and want to know that will help you prepare for this
hurricane season. A sample family emergency plan is on pages 30-33 of this issue.
HBI Security Members! Keep an eye on your mailbox for our updated Vacation Check
forms for your use this summer. The HBI Security vacation checks performed by our
patrol officers while you’re away are an invaluable service provided by our program.
Please confirm Captain Wheeler has the most up-to-date contact information for you
Annette Ross and your family. If you’re not a member or need to renew, a Membership application
President form is on page 8 of this issue. For more information about HBI Security and its
services, contact Cindy at Rupp Associates or any of our detail officers or HBPHOA
Board members.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS In other HBPHOA news, the HBPHOA has finally been
able to acquire the required insurance to allow us to

We want to extend a ‘Thank you!’ to our 17th Street Mobility Task Force colleague,
Pat Riley
Barbara Magill, President of the Lauderdale Harbors Civic Association, for sharing her
Barry Somerstein update in this issue on the latest plans for the Convention Center and 17th Street Bypass
Road. As your representative on the Task Force, I’m delighted with the revival of the Bypass
Isobel Sturgeon
Road plan and with a number of other ideas being considered to address the traffic
Steve Tsingas congestion on 17th Street. We will continue to keep you posted as plans further develop.
In closing, another special ‘Thank you!’ is in order for our new Vice Mayor and
Rupp Associates, Accounting District 4 Commissioner, Ben Sorensen, for his efforts to address our City’s downtown
954-525-6116
rupp1040@aol.com homeless problem. Ben recently opened an actual satellite office in the area near the
library among the homeless. His efforts are resulting in more resources from the city,
county and other interested parties being devoted to addressing these homeless issues.
Kudos, Commissioner! HB
Have a great summer!
Thank you!
