ArtServe's RedEye to Feature

Art, Film, Food & Music

S

ave the date for RedEye, ArtServe’s annual summertime
celebration of art, music, film, food, and neighborhood

fun. This Warholian-like art happening spills out of the
gallery onto Sunrise Blvd with live art, bands, DJs, food
trucks, feature films and more – all for less than the price of
a movie.

This year RedEye pulls out the stops by bringing in top
talents including celebrated urban artist Cey Adams, who
will mentor and paint live with 10 local artists. Ceyis a
pioneering New York graffiti artist who became famous as
founding creative director of Def Jam Recordings and
graphic designer for everyone from Maroon 5 and the
Beastie Boys to Jay Z, Nike, Adidas, Coca-Cola and the
Museum of Modern Art. Cey rose up through the street art
movement that inspired RedEye. With his close friends
Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and the rest of the
Manhattan 500, he was a key player in launching an
urban art revolution that today we find everywhere. Now,
everyone can see him in person at RedEye.

Wynwood-based Gummdrops will bring bands and create
RedEye’s unique soundtrack. Another highlight will be the
South Florida premiere of Coming Home, a documentary
examining hip-hop's relationship to Cuba, with hip-hop
activist DJ EFN, who took cameras onto the island to
capture amazing stories. The film won “Best Documentary”
at The People’s Film Festival and was the first documentary
aired on Sean ‘P.Diddy’ Combs’ new cable network, Revolt.

An exclusive screening of Jean-Michel Basquiat: The
Radiant Child, is another RedEye exclusive. Nominated for
the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, the film
presents rare footage chronicling the rise, fall and lasting
influence of an artist who began with a spray can and
created canvases that now sell for more than $1 million.

RedEye is a fundraiser benefit for the non-profit ArtServe,
Broward’s premier art service organization, which provides
programs, affordable facilities and collaborative
opportunities that help artists turn art into business. Funds
raised help sustain and build new programs that benefit
our community. And, as always, amazing art will be on
exhibit and for sale during all the festivities.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door and VIP
tickets are available for $75 while supplies last that give
ticketholders special access to a private lounge with
signature cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, a celebrity meet-and-
greet and other extras.

RedEye is the hottest ticket of the summer. Don’t be left in
the cold. Tickets are available at ArtServe.org, or in person
at ArtServe, 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd.

I

RedEye is entering its 10th season, and this year it’s literally brand new.
Joining our collection local rock star artists is pioneering New York City
graphic designer and founding creative director of Def Jam Recordings,
Cey Adams, who will bring his new “Trusted Brands” series to RedEye.

It’s not hyperbole that Cey, who was featured in the definitive PBS
documentary on the topic, STYLE WARS, is a seminal figure in the birth of
an art, cultural and political movement that currently reigns supreme
worldwide and for which RedEye was originally started.

Of course, RedEye is not just an exhibit but a Warholian art happening
featuring live art, bands, DJs, food trucks, feature films and much more
than ever before.

The Red Eye Art Happening is on Saturday, July 25. The Red Eye gallery
exhibition will be open to the public from July 6 – Aug 14.
