President's Message
The Landings Residential Association
Greetings Neighbors,
Gated Community Update
s you are aware from our previous communications your Security and Traffic
Safety Committee, which is comprised of Tom Brinkley, Jim Becker and
Amyself, have been working on a number of security and safety projects.
Some of these projects include repainting the traffic tables with yellow fluorescent
chevrons, a bike lane buffer strip on Bayview Drive like the one on 55th Street,
installation of electric speed reader signs, 25 MPH speed limit throughout The
Landings and additional stop signs.
The most important of our initiatives however is the installation of traffic barrier
gates and security cameras at each of the four entrances to The Landings. The
committee has met with our commissioner, Heather Moraitis, to discuss this
initiative. She has been very supportive of our efforts in this regard. We have also
met with Christine Fanchi in the City’s Building and Zoning office as well as Jay
Flynn, city engineer. They have visited the neighborhood with Tom Brinkley to
Mike Watson, President evaluate the feasibility of installing the gates at each location.
Landings Residential Association
We are excited to report that the City has indicated its willingness to support our
community in these initiatives. The city has indicated it will support the gates at
North Bayview Drive and NE 59th Street. They are still evaluating the gates at
South Bayview Drive and NE 55th Street and, once they receive more detailed
OFFICERS topography and design input, may approve those locations as well.
President
I believe the benefits of living in a gated community, which include greater safety

exceed the minor inconvenience of slower movement of traffic. I hope you all agree.
Vice President
Diane Dodich These improvements will not be accomplished without the substantial support of the
community. That support includes financial support. The city will require that the
Secretary
Dana Mullaney community pay for the installation and maintenance of the security gates and
cameras as well as he engineering study required by the engineering department.
Treasurer
Steve Lawrence The initial cost for the engineering studies is $60 per household. The remaining
additional cost for installation of the gates and cameras is $1,000 per household.
The city has indicated it may be possible that the remaining additional $1,000
DIRECTORS
could be financed by the city and paid back over a five year or seven year period.
