W ith hurricane season over, this is such a great time of year here in
beautiful Rio Vista! Thankfully Hurricane Irma took a turn away from us,
Wand the storm surge happened closer to low tide than high tide. Some
residents suffered damage but as a neighborhood we fared pretty well. The extremely
high sustained winds and the lack of power for many days were the worst part for
many of us. Kudos to our Rio Vista Disaster Preparedness Team led by Warren
Sturman and Tom Maus. The team held well attended meetings both pre- and post-
hurricane in Virginia Young Park dispersing Information, coordinating both clean-up
efforts and the availability of medical doctors.
We would like to thank Rio Vista native Fred Stresau for his many years of service
leading the Disaster Preparedness Team until this season. You don't know this, but
among other things, Fred came up with, and implemented, a plan to replace every
street sign in Rio Vista if needed. Those signs would be up right after the damage.
We'd also like to thank the new co-chairs of the Disaster Preparedness Team, Tom Nancy Messing Brand
Maus and Eladio Perez. Vice President, RVCA

Dr. Warren Sturman, long time president of RVCA, has taken a leave of absence from
the RVCA Board to pursue his candidacy for District 4 City Commissioner seat. We
                                                                                                    President (on leave)
thank Warren for his service to RVCA and wish him the best in his campaign. Warren Sturman, MD
