President’s Message
he black and white photo of Bahia Mar on the cover of this issue is meant to
remind us all of one overriding fact regarding this grand old property and
T that to which everyone agrees. The property as it sits sorely needs to be
refreshed and turned into a world-class property that will benefit Fort Lauderdale for
decades to come. With a new proposal to redevelop the property recently brought to
the City Commission in March by the current leaseholders, Rahn Bahia Mar, LLC,
resulting in new, ongoing talks, we wanted to be sure our Harbor Beach and
surrounding neighborhoods have all the latest facts about what’s going on. To that
end, we invited Steven Glassman, City of Fort Lauderdale Vice Mayor and District 2
Commissioner, and Ben Sorensen, our own District 4 City Commissioner, to give us
an update on where things stand after the early March Commission meeting. One of
the owners of Rahn Bahia Mar, LLC, Jimmy Tate, was also invited to submit an update
and a brief discussion from the developer’s perspective. Comments from all three
parties appear later in this issue. We are encouraged that the negotiations are
continuing among all parties with the hopes that Fort Lauderdale will end up with the
kind of world-class redevelopment plan that the iconic and invaluable Bahia Mar
Annette Ross property deserves.

Ann Cadwalader Many thanks go out to Commissioner Ben Sorensen, City Manager Chris Lagerbloom

as the noise and music is heard throughout the entire neighborhood and not restricted
