President's Message
The Landings Residential Association
Greetings Neighbors:
Your Landings Residential Association, Inc. board of directors is continuing to work to
improve our neighborhood and to make it more like it was originally intended to be.
Listed below are some of the projects that have been completed or are still ongoing:
Improved Lighting at the Round-a-bout
The board has filed an application with the City of Fort Lauderdale to install a new
lighting pole and lighting at the east side of the round-a-bout at the entrance from
North Federal Highway to our neighborhood. The application has been approved by
the city. It is my understanding that the City will pay for the pole and installation. It is
likely that the association will need to purchase the lights which the city will maintain.
The city has indicated that it may take a year to complete this project due to
budgeting limitations.
Expansion Joints at 55th Street Bridge
Board member Jim Becker has been communicating with the city regarding the
significant spaces in the expansion joints on the 55th Street bridge. The deterioration
Mike Watson, President of the expansion joints over the years had caused the joints to widen creating a
Landings Residential Association hazardous condition that affects the safe transit of baby carriages, roller blades and
skate boards from traversing over the bridge in a safe and smooth manner. Thanks to
Jim the joints have been repaired.
Repainting the Chevrons on the Speed Tables
The repainting of the speed tables on N.E. 55th Street and also on Bayview Drive has
begun. Due to funding restrictions at the city, this project is not moving as quickly as
OFFICERS we would like. It is a work in progress and is continuing.
Mike Watson, President Duplicate Power Poles on Bayview Drive
wizardwats@msn.com
I’m sure everyone has noticed that, although FP&L has strengthened the power grid by
Diane Dodich, Vice president replacing the power poles on Bayview Drive, the old poles are still in place. This
dionline94@aol.com
presents an appearance that is unsightly and almost looks like a third world country.
Dana Mullaney, Secretary Residents Scott and Helena Cooper along with Tom Brinkley have communicated with
danatmullaney@aol.com the city and representatives of FP&L to resolve this unsightly situation. It is our
Kathleen Cool, Treasurer understanding that FP&L plans to bury the power lines in a few years. It is also our
kacool1@aol.com understanding that the problem has to do with the contract between AT&T and
Comcast with FP&L for the use of the poles and possibly delinquent payments to FP&L.
DIRECTORS We are requesting that the old poles be removed as soon as possible. In addition, we
are requesting that the AT&T and Comcast lines be buried in the pilot program area at
James Becker
the same time that the FP&L lines are buried. We understand that FP&L currently plans
Sherylyn Broskey to bury the power lines in the southeast section of The Landings as a pilot project and
Melanie Buckner that they are currently in the process of securing easements for the pad mounted
transformers from certain property owners. We have requested a timeline as to when
Ronnie Dennis
FP&L might transition to underground lines in the rest of the surrounding community.
