Vice Mayor’s Message

                                                  Dear Community Members,

he summer months in south Florida can be brutal, with the extra heat,
rainy days and an increase of our pesky friends, the mosquitoes. I urge
Tall residents of the Harbor Beach Community to stay safe and healthy this
summer by drinking lots of water and find cooling activities for you and your family.
Additionally, check in on your elderly neighbors this summer to make sure they are
prepared for this year’s hurricane season.
                                                  Hurricane Season 2022
The 2022 Hurricane Season is here and in full swing! I want to make sure everyone
has prepared for this year’s season. There are several things to think about when
Lamar P. Fisher preparing for a hurricane. These include, but are not limited to, (1) ensuring your
Broward County Vice Mayor assets are protected, (2) assessing your home for vulnerable areas, (3) planning on
Commissioner District 4 protection for your vehicle, (4) securing your home (shutters, trimming trees, etc.),
                                                  (4) planning for an elderly or special needs person that may live in your home, (5)
planning for your pet, (6) talking to your children and out of town family/friends
about your plans and (7) reviewing/gathering your supplies.
As we anticipate for any major weather event this year, I encourage all to visit

Broward County Spring and summer bring heavy rain, and we all know that once the rain settles,

                                                  Plastics Ordinance
Broward County passed an ordinance banning single-use plastic straws and stirrers
on County property. We know the harmful effects of these products on our
environment, from the impacts to our waterways to the major impacts on the
ecosystem. It is certainly in the best interest of the health and wellbeing of all in
our community to assist in the reduction of litter. The County’s ordinance essentially
states that polystyrene products, single-use plastic beverage straws, and single-use
plastic stirrers may not be i) purchased by the County or used by individuals on
County property, ii) used or provided by temporary vendors on County property,
Commission Assistant or iii) used or provided by entities engaged in a contractual relationship with the
Mabel Hurtado County for the provision of goods or services on County property.

Tel: 954-357-7004 Additionally, confetti and sky lanterns are also not allowed on County property as
they can be mistakenly ingested by wildlife. The intent of this action is to convey to
the public how dangerous these items can be in our environment. While this is the
first step for our County, I am hopeful that we are taking the right steps for
                                                  our environment.
